Garden Finials Enhance Your Space

by guestpost on November 7, 2008

When an architect designs a formal garden space they frequently add in a number of garden finials to enhance the beauty of the space and, of course, to ward off evil spirits that may try to invade. Technically a finial is a decorative piece added to the top of a structure or a pole. Garden finials have evolved to free standing objects cast in concrete and typically are images of gargoyles, a welcoming pineapple, or any number of objects in between. They can be used as separators to mark a transition point in the garden or to flank a seating area. Garden finials can help to define your garden and to personalize it. When you visit an outdoor decorating center, they may have dozens of styles to choose from so you can define your garden to match your personality. The process of laying out your garden space should be fun and challenging to ensure that it provides you with years of enjoyment. Conversation with friends will frequently flow around the choices you’ve made in decorating your garden, so pay particular attention to the ways in which your selections might direct the flow and you’ll get years of enjoyment from these special additions.
